At the DSI 2026 conference in Portorož, Matevž Ogrinc presented NutriBase, a web platform developed at the Jožef Stefan Institute for managing and integrating food composition and nutrition data.

NutriBase enables researchers and the food industry to organize and update food composition information while connecting the Slovenian food database with international resources in line with FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable). The system supports the integration of data from multiple sources and helps reduce missing information through automated data linking and enrichment.

The platform also integrates with applications such as Veš, kaj ješ and Piskr, and includes AI-supported functionalities such as recognition of graphical elements on food packaging and automated completion of missing data. Citizens can contribute to the database by sharing photos of new food products, helping continuously expand and improve the national food information ecosystem.

We thank all participants who showed interest, explored the applications, and shared valuable feedback. Their input will help guide the next stages of development and further strengthen open and interoperable food data infrastructures.
